BOULDER
Cave · Puzzle · Boulder Dash (First Star, 1984)
Collect the gems and reach the door before the boulders fall.
Free play does not count for the leaderboard: it keeps your best on this device only. Today's challenge is one run per person.
HOW IT PLAYS
Dig through a cave's earth, collect the gems the level asks for and leave through the door before time runs out. The door doesn't appear until the gem count is complete.
Boulders and gems don't hold themselves up: they fall when you take the earth from under them, roll aside when resting on another boulder, and kill you if they catch you falling. A boulder can be pushed sideways, and only with space behind it.
Some caves hold creatures that patrol the open spaces along the walls and kill on contact. A boulder dropped on one blows it up and clears everything around it: a firefly leaves empty space, a butterfly leaves gems.

HOW POINTS ARE SCORED

TO SCORE MORE
· Before digging upward, look at what is over your head. Most deaths are boulders that spent the whole run waiting for you to remove their floor.
· A resting boulder does nothing; it only kills while falling. You can walk under one that has already stopped.
· Creatures only move through empty space: the earth keeps them penned in. Digging into their chamber sets them loose; dig above it instead and drop a boulder on them.
· Dig sideways tunnels, not vertical shafts. A shaft leaves everything above unsupported exactly where you are standing.
· Time pays 5 points a second, so the short route beats sweeping up spare gems: once the count is complete, leave.
