CENTIPEDE
Shooting · Reflexes · Centipede (Atari, 1980)
Split the centipede through the mushroom field.
Free play does not count for the leaderboard: it keeps your best on this device only. Today's challenge is one run per person.
HOW IT PLAYS
The centipede zigzags down through a mushroom field laid out by the seed. Every segment you kill turns into a mushroom and splits the chain in two, so the field closes in on itself.
You move along the bottom strip and shoot upwards. The spider zigzags through your zone and the flea drops mushrooms when they run short.
CONTROLS
Directions within the bottom strip, FIRE shoots upwards.

TO SCORE MORE
· A point-blank spider (900) is the best deal in the game, and also what kills you. Shooting it up close is the difference between an average run and a good one.
· Shooting the middle splits the centipede into two chains coming down on their own: sometimes it is better to always take the head (100) and leave the body intact.
· Every kill leaves a mushroom. Too clean a field brings the flea; too dirty a field lets the centipede drop straight down onto you.
· Mushrooms are worth 1 point: clearing them is not scoring, it is opening firing lanes. Do it only where you plan to shoot.
