MR. DO!
Maze · Digging · Mr. Do! (Universal, 1982)
Dig the orchard, grab the cherries and squash monsters with apples.
Free play does not count for the leaderboard: it keeps your best on this device only. Today's challenge is one run per person.
HOW IT PLAYS
A clown digs tunnels through an orchard collecting cherries, which come in bunches of eight. Monsters come out one by one from the den in the middle and chase you through the tunnels; the blinking ones are diggers and head straight for you through the dirt. A screen ends when you collect every cherry or kill every monster, whichever comes first.
You fight back with the power ball, which runs along the tunnels and bounces off the dirt, and with the apples: they fall when you dig away the dirt under them and squash whatever they catch, you included. You can also push them sideways along a tunnel. Each screen brings one more monster (up to nine), and faster ones, and they keep speeding up if you linger on a screen.
CONTROLS
Directions to move and dig (digging is a bit slower than walking a tunnel). FIRE throws the ball the way you face; in the status bar, the blinking dot is the ball in your hand and the grey bar is how long until it comes back.

HOW POINTS ARE SCORED
TO SCORE MORE
· The ball lasts 3 seconds and comes straight back if it hits nobody. But every kill makes it slower to return: 2, 4, 6, 8 and then 10 seconds on the same screen. Save it for when a monster corners you.
· Apples don't use up the ball. Dig the cell under one from a tunnel, step back out and get clear: it wobbles for a moment and drops on whoever is following you. That's 200 each, twice the ball, and 300 more if it catches two.
· Never keep digging straight down from under an apple. It won't fall while you are underneath, but as soon as you move off it starts to wobble, and one that is already falling squashes you.
· Each whole bunch is worth 180 (8 cherries plus the 100 prize). An apple landing on a cherry squashes it and that bunch can no longer be completed. No monster comes out while you are within five steps of the den, but don't linger: every 15 seconds on the same screen they get a little faster.
