HOW THE DAY WENT

Sunday, September 13 brought JEWELS, at level 1, and 2 people played.

POLINOMIOS won by a street with 1,250 points, 1,190 more than ADRIAN in second.

THE SCREEN

It used map 1 of the 3 that JEWELS has. It was played at level 1, with the same seed for everyone: the same enemies and the same pieces in the same order.

THE MUSIC

Sinfonía n.º 5, op. 67, primer movimiento (reducción para piano), L. van Beethoven, 1808.

The four opening notes, three short and one long, are probably the most recognisable motif in classical music.

It is in the public domain, transcribed to chiptune with square and triangle waves, the way it would sound on an Atari 2600.

ABOUT TODAY'S GAME

A column of three gems falls and you can rotate them among themselves. Three or more alike in a line (in all four directions) disappear, and whatever falls on top can chain.

As in Magic Jewelry, every 70 cleared gems the WILDCARD arrives: a flashing column that, on landing, wipes every gem of the colour it touches. Landing is also what raises the level, changes the song and speeds up the fall.

· Chains multiply: the same clear is worth double as the second link and triple as the third. Build in steps so the collapse keeps closing lines.
