THE SCREEN

Screenshot of the QIX challenge on 2026-10-16

It used map 2 of the 3 that QIX has. It was played at level 5, with the same seed for everyone: the same enemies and the same pieces in the same order.

THE MUSIC

Marcha de los enanos (Trolltog), Piezas líricas op. 54 n.º 3, Edvard Grieg, 1891.

The trolls march by night; halfway through a calm theme appears, as if they were hiding, and then they come back.

It is in the public domain, transcribed to chiptune with square and triangle waves, the way it would sound on an Atari 2600.

ABOUT TODAY'S GAME

Carve up the board. You leave your own ground by drawing a line into the open space, and when you step back onto your ground the area you closed becomes yours — but only the half the Qix is NOT in.

While drawing you are defenceless: if the Qix touches your line, that's it. Sparx patrol the border of what you've claimed, round the corners, and cannot enter the open space: they won't follow you there.

· The big move is splitting the board side to side: the half without the Qix is claimed whole in one stroke. A well-timed split takes 73% and the round at once.
