ASTEROIDS

Ships · Inertia · Asteroids (Atari, 1979)

Turn, thrust and blast the rocks to bits.

Free play does not count for the leaderboard: it keeps your best on this device only. Today's challenge is one run per person.

HOW IT PLAYS

You turn in 16 directions from a fixed table (no trigonometry, so the replay is identical on any engine), thrust with up and shoot with FIRE. The ship keeps its inertia: there is no brake.

Large asteroids split into medium and medium into small, and the smaller the piece the more it pays.

CONTROLS

Left and right turn, up thrusts, FIRE shoots.

On screen: TURN LEFT/RIGHT UP THRUST

TO SCORE MORE

· The score is in the small ones: breaking a large one all the way down is 20 + 100 + 400 spread out. Never leave small ones alive to chase another large one.

· With no brake, thrust is an expensive resource. Tap it briefly and turn to correct instead of thrusting to escape.

· Sitting in a corner works until the field fills with fast small rocks: clear by zones and keep half the screen free as a refuge.

· The wave bonus grows each time, so surviving matters more than squeezing the current wave.
